Archaeologists from Pre-Construct Archaeology have uncovered two rare Iron Age artifacts near Thetford, Norfolk. The excavation revealed a carnyx, a type of battle trumpet, and a boar's head flag standard,
both of which are considered extraordinary finds. The carnyx is the most complete of its kind ever found in Europe, while the boar standard is the first discovered in Britain. These items were used by Celtic tribes, including the Iceni, led by Queen Boudica, to intimidate enemies and rally troops. The artifacts, dating from 50 BC to AD 50, were found alongside other items like shield bosses and an iron object. The discovery is being coordinated for research and conservation by Historic England, Norfolk Museums Service, and the National Museum of Scotland.
