What's Happening?
Firaxis has announced a new feature for Civilization 7, allowing players to play as one civilization from start to finish. This development comes in response to player feedback and aims to address the less popular Ages system, which divides the game into
three historical phases. The new option, called Continuity Mode, will enable players to maintain wars and other dynamics between Age transitions. Firaxis plans to test this feature through the Firaxis Feature Workshop, involving community members in the development process.
Why It's Important?
The introduction of this feature is significant as it addresses player dissatisfaction with the current Ages system, which has led to lower engagement compared to previous versions of the game. By allowing continuous play as one civilization, Firaxis hopes to increase player retention and satisfaction. This move could potentially boost the game's popularity and sales, impacting the strategy game market and Firaxis's standing in the industry.
What's Next?
Firaxis will conduct testing of the new feature through the Firaxis Feature Workshop, inviting community members to participate. The testing will be coordinated via the official Discord, with application instructions provided alongside a game update. This update will also introduce new naval elements, including a Harbor building and Privateer unit. The success of these tests could lead to further enhancements and updates for Civilization 7.
