What's Happening?
SchneiTec Dynamics' renewable energy bond has been awarded the Frontier Markets Deal of the Year 2025 by IFR Asia, marking a significant achievement for Cambodia's capital markets. The bond, which is Cambodia's first project bond, was issued to finance
the country's first utility-scale solar photovoltaic plant with battery storage in Kampong Chhnang province. The project, with a generation capacity of 60MWac, operates under a 20-year power purchase agreement with Électricité du Cambodge. The bond raised approximately $49 million and is listed on the Cambodia Securities Exchange. Yuanta Securities (Cambodia) Plc. played a pivotal role in the transaction, which is seen as a blueprint for future infrastructure deals in the region.
Why It's Important?
This award highlights the growing potential of Cambodia's capital markets and the role of innovative financial instruments in supporting sustainable development. The successful issuance of the bond demonstrates how private capital can be mobilized for national development, particularly in renewable energy. It sets a new benchmark for infrastructure financing in Cambodia, attracting regional and international investors interested in frontier market opportunities. The involvement of the Credit Guarantee and Investment Facility (CGIF) underscores the importance of credit guarantees in enabling access to long-term capital for projects in emerging markets.
What's Next?
Yuanta Securities has indicated that this achievement is just the beginning, with plans to pursue additional landmark deals that will continue to elevate standards in frontier markets. The recognition from IFR Asia is expected to enhance Cambodia's profile among investors, potentially leading to increased investment in sectors related to energy transition and infrastructure growth. The success of this bond could pave the way for more innovative financing solutions in the region, further integrating Cambodia into the global financial system.
