British maritime security groups Vanguard & Ambrey have reported that suspected pirates have boarded an unregistered general cargo ship flying the St. Kitts and Nevis flag off the coast of Somalia. The vessel, which was en route from Suez, Egypt to Mombasa,
Kenya, is now under pirate control and being steered towards the Somali coast. The ship's crew consists of 15 members, including two Indians and thirteen Syrians. This incident marks a resurgence in pirate activity in the region, which had seen a decline between 2008 and 2018 but began increasing again in 2023.
