McCreight that he had missed federal jury duty and faced arrest if he did not pay a fine. The scammers presented what appeared to be legitimate documents, including citations for failing to appear and a forged signature. They directed him to report to the Sheriff's Office but insisted he first clear bonds by making an immediate payment at a kiosk. McCreight grew suspicious and contacted a friend who is a police officer, who immediately identified it as a scam. Despite the friend's advice, the callers continued to pressure McCreight, threatening an active arrest warrant if he hung up. He ultimately did not send any money.
