What's Happening?
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is conducting extensive paving projects on Route 13, covering nearly 39 lane miles in Accomack and Northampton counties. The projects, scheduled for completion in 2026, aim to improve road conditions along
this critical corridor. The work includes resurfacing both northbound and southbound lanes, with significant sections already underway.
Why It's Important?
Route 13 is a vital transportation artery on the Eastern Shore, facilitating the movement of goods and people. The paving projects are essential for maintaining road safety and efficiency, reducing wear and tear on vehicles, and supporting local economies. Improved road conditions can also enhance travel experiences for residents and visitors, contributing to regional development.
