What's Happening?
The International Association of Maritime Clusters (IAMC) has announced the addition of 17 national and regional maritime clusters to its membership. This expansion aims to foster improved cooperation and the sharing of best practices across the global
maritime industry. The new members include clusters from various countries such as Belgium, Bulgaria, France, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Spain, and Ukraine, as well as the Isle of Man, South Africa, Monaco, the UK, and the USA. The IAMC, led by Peter Shaerf, Chairman of New York Maritime (NYMAR) and President of the IAMC, seeks to promote the global maritime ecosystem by aligning shipowners, ports, energy providers, and service companies worldwide. The association provides a unified voice to engage with international bodies like the International Maritime Organization and aims to translate local challenges into global policy recommendations.
Why It's Important?
The expansion of the IAMC is significant as it strengthens the global maritime industry's ability to collaborate on critical issues such as decarbonization, digitalization, and safety regulation. By bringing together a diverse range of maritime clusters, the IAMC can better represent the entire maritime value chain and ensure that smaller or emerging maritime nations have a voice in global policy discussions. This collaboration is expected to lead to faster access to markets and partners, as well as stronger value chains, benefiting the global maritime industry economically and operationally.
What's Next?
As the IAMC continues to grow, it is expected to further solidify its role as a key player in global maritime policy-making. The association plans to form a Board of Governors with representatives from around the world, which will guide its strategic direction. Additionally, the IAMC will likely focus on expanding its membership base and enhancing its influence in international maritime discussions. This could lead to more coordinated efforts in addressing global maritime challenges and opportunities.
