Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani of Qatar has been elected as the president of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), succeeding Randir Singh of India, who stepped down for health reasons. Sheikh Joaan, who was
the sole candidate, received 44 votes at the OCA's annual assembly in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. His term will run until 2028. Sheikh Joaan is also the president of the Qatar Olympic Committee and a senior vice president of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC). Qatar is positioning itself as a strong contender to host the 2036 Summer Olympics.
