What's Happening?
Legendary hotelier Ian Schrager is set to debut his cult-favorite hotel brand, PUBLIC, in West Hollywood in spring 2026. This marks Schrager's third return to the city, introducing a 137-key property on
the iconic Sunset Strip. The hotel will be housed within a landmark building, with design executed by Schrager in collaboration with British architect John Pawson. PUBLIC West Hollywood will feature standout amenities such as a pool, a social hub lobby, and three destination food, beverage, and entertainment outlets. A lushly landscaped 16,000 square-foot open-air rooftop terrace will offer 360-degree views of Los Angeles. The hotel embodies Schrager's vision of democratic luxury, providing curated multi-sensory experiences built on four key pillars: great service, style, entertainment, and experience.
Why It's Important?
The introduction of PUBLIC West Hollywood is significant as it represents a shift in the hospitality industry towards 'luxury for all,' making high-end experiences accessible to a broader audience. This aligns with changing consumer preferences for unique, immersive experiences rather than traditional luxury. The hotel is expected to attract a new generation of discerning travelers and locals, potentially boosting local tourism and the economy. Schrager's innovative approach could influence other hospitality brands to adopt similar models, emphasizing style and experience at accessible prices.
What's Next?
Reservations for PUBLIC West Hollywood will be available starting early January 2026. The hotel is likely to become a cultural hub, attracting both travelers and locals with its dynamic social spaces and vibrant entertainment offerings. As the opening date approaches, there may be increased interest and anticipation from potential guests and industry stakeholders. The success of this venture could lead to further expansion of the PUBLIC brand in other major cities.
