What's Happening?
A new pre-army academy is set to open in Kibbutz Kfar Aza, Israel, in memory of Team 100 from the elite Duvdevan unit. The initiative, led by Mickey Michaeli, father of the late Sgt. Maj. (res) Omri Michaeli, aims to honor the fighters who fell during
the October 7 battle in Kfar Aza. The academy, named Me’a, will serve as a tribute to the deep bond formed between the unit's fighters and the kibbutz community. The project is expected to begin in September, coinciding with the return of some residents to Kfar Aza. The academy will not only serve as an educational framework but also as a means to integrate young people into the community's rehabilitation efforts.
Why It's Important?
The establishment of the academy is significant as it represents a step towards healing and rebuilding for the bereaved families and the community of Kfar Aza. It highlights the resilience and determination to transform a site of tragedy into one of hope and renewal. The academy will provide a space for young people to engage with the community, fostering a sense of belonging and purpose. This initiative also underscores the importance of commemorating those who have sacrificed their lives, ensuring their legacy continues to inspire future generations.
What's Next?
The project requires further renovations and funding before it can fully commence. The community and academy organizers aim to gradually increase the number of participants, with plans to reach 60 to 70 participants by the third year. The academy's success will depend on continued support from the kibbutz and external stakeholders, as well as the integration of its participants into the community's daily life. The initiative may serve as a model for similar projects in other communities affected by conflict.
