What's Happening?
The Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) has awarded the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) up to $22.56 million for its new 188-MW Timmerman Power Plant Unit 1, a natural gas-fired facility in Caldwell County, Texas. This marks the first agreement
under the Texas Energy Fund's Completion Bonus Grant Program, aimed at accelerating dispatchable generation projects. The Timmerman Unit 1, featuring high-efficiency natural gas engines, was connected to the ERCOT grid in August 2025 and can start within 45 seconds, reaching full output in five minutes. The grant provides annual payments contingent on the plant's operational performance, measured by ERCOT against other thermal generation resources.
