to Dylan Browne, General Manager of the NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCIA), military satellite communications remain a foundational element of NATO’s SATCOM architecture, providing secure and resilient communication for various alliance activities, from strategic nuclear deterrence to deployed forces. NCIA is actively working on enhancing terminals, spectrum efficiency, and protected communications to reinforce SATCOM as a core operational component. The strategy reflects NATO's recognition of the increasing importance of the commercial space sector, with approximately 25% of NCIA's budget currently allocated to space initiatives, including secure communications, commercial satellite communications, imagery, and intelligence.
