What's Happening?
Kongsberg's Protector family of remote weapon stations (RWSs) and turrets were tested at the Wichlen Schiessplatz test range in Switzerland during the annual user working group meeting. This event, held in May 2026, marked the first time international
press was allowed to observe the live fire demonstration. The working group, organized by Kongsberg, aims to foster collaboration among military customers, operators, maintainers, and industry partners. The event featured a live fire range day hosted by the Swiss Armed Forces, attended by 23 of Protector's 31 national customers, including the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.
Why It's Important?
The event highlights the importance of international collaboration in enhancing military capabilities, particularly in countering unmanned aerial vehicles (C-UAVs). By sharing lessons and experiences, participating countries can improve their understanding and implementation of RWS technologies. This collaboration is crucial for developing effective strategies to address emerging threats posed by UAVs. The involvement of multiple nations also underscores the global interest in advancing defense technologies and the need for coordinated efforts to enhance security and defense readiness.
