What's Happening?
Austmine has announced the appointment of Tony Davis as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective April 1, 2026. Davis brings over 30 years of senior executive experience in government and mining-related sectors, with a focus on enhancing Australian
capabilities in global markets. Previously, he served as Executive General Manager for The Americas at the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade), where he led operations across North and Latin America, achieving record trade and investment outcomes. His leadership is expected to strengthen Austmine's support for its members and the broader Mining Equipment, Technology and Services (METS) sector.
Why It's Important?
The appointment of Tony Davis is significant as it comes at a time when Australia's METS sector is crucial to global supply chains, critical minerals development, and the energy transition. Davis's extensive experience in international trade and industrial sectors is expected to enhance Austmine's advocacy and global positioning. His leadership could provide Australian METS companies with greater opportunities to scale internationally and strengthen collaboration within the mining ecosystem. This move is likely to bolster Australia's reputation for innovation and operational excellence in the mining sector.
What's Next?
Tony Davis will begin his role on April 1, 2026, and will work closely with Austmine's board and leadership team during his transition. Vanessa Haberland, the current Interim CEO, will transition to the role of Chief Operating Officer, continuing to support organizational delivery and member outcomes. Davis's leadership is anticipated to further elevate Australia's global leadership in the METS sector, potentially leading to increased international collaborations and market expansions.
