Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson recently visited Sandhill View Academy in Sunderland to observe the Premier League Inspires program in action. The initiative, delivered by the Foundation of Light, the official charity of Sunderland AFC, uses football to empower young people by developing personal, social, employability, and life skills. The program has engaged over 40,000 young people across England and Wales, with more than 850 pupils participating in the Sunderland region this year alone. Premier League Inspires is expanding, with plans to increase the number of participating football club charities from 45 to 54 in the 2025/26 season.
