What's Happening?
ABL has been contracted to support Esso Australia Resources in the Gippsland Decommissioning Campaign #1 Project, which is set to be Australia's largest offshore decommissioning effort. The project involves the removal of up to 13 offshore platforms in the Bass
Strait, beginning in 2027. Esso, a subsidiary of ExxonMobil, operates the Bass Strait assets, which include extensive infrastructure such as wells, subsea facilities, and pipelines. ABL will provide marine warranty survey services, including technical reviews and offshore attendance during operations.
Why It's Important?
This decommissioning campaign represents a significant step in managing aging offshore infrastructure and addressing environmental concerns associated with old oil and gas platforms. The project aims to recycle over 95% of the recovered materials, highlighting a commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. The involvement of ABL, with its expertise in decommissioning, underscores the complexity and scale of the operation. Successful execution of this project could set a precedent for future decommissioning efforts in the region and globally.
