The Missouri Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development (MDHEWD) is observing Apprenticeship Week from April 26 to May 2, as proclaimed by Governor Mike Kehoe. This initiative aims to highlight the significant role of registered apprenticeships
in strengthening Missouri's skilled workforce. According to a department release, there has been an 88% increase in active apprentices from fiscal years 2015 to 2026. Currently, nearly 11,000 Missouri youths aged 16-24 are engaged in these programs, alongside over 500 individuals aged 55 or older and nearly 1,300 veterans. The department emphasizes that apprenticeships are crucial for closing workforce gaps by providing high-quality training and preparing individuals for in-demand careers. The annual Apprenticeship Missouri Summit in Sedalia featured discussions on the state's apprenticeship landscape and its impact on the labor market. Awards were presented to various organizations for their contributions to workforce development, including Cox Health as Employer of the Year.
