What's Happening?
Zambia is advancing its renewable energy strategy by launching a new initiative to install 2.3MW solar power plants with 4.16MWh battery storage in each of its 156 constituencies. This project, led by the Zambia National Energy Corporation Limited (ZNEC),
aims to enhance electricity access across the country. The initiative is part of the Presidential Constituency Energy Initiative (PCEI), which will utilize redirected Constituency Development Fund resources and other funding sources. The project is expected to add a total of 359 MWp of solar capacity and 648.96MWh of battery storage, supporting Zambia's goal to diversify its energy mix and reduce reliance on hydropower, which has been affected by prolonged dry spells.
