What's Happening?
Senegal is bolstering a national coalition to improve health outcomes for women, children, and adolescents. Coordinated by Amref Health West Africa, the initiative is part of the Collaborative Advocacy Action Plan supported by PMNCH. The coalition aims
to enhance advocacy, coordination, and domestic health financing. It involves government institutions, civil society organizations, and development partners focusing on sexual, reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health. By 2025, action plans were developed for family planning and maternal health, with community-level tools updated. Youth participation is emphasized, with social media influencers trained as health ambassadors. Despite progress, Senegal faces challenges like maternal and neonatal mortality, regional healthcare inequalities, and misinformation about reproductive health. The coalition's efforts include public awareness campaigns and budget advocacy workshops to secure greater health financing.
