Engineers at the Oklahoma City Air Logistics Complex have developed a reverse-engineered boom-to-drogue adapter for the KC-135 tanker fleet. This innovation replaces the traditional rigid refueling nozzle with a flexible hose-and-basket system, allowing
the tanker to refuel both fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters. The development aims to alleviate supply chain delays and enhance the versatility of the KC-135, which is crucial for joint-force operations across multiple military branches. The adapter was created through a rapid development process, reclaiming Air Force control over the supply chain.
