Why It's Important?

The holiday season, characterized by increased online transactions, shopping, and gift card purchases, presents heightened opportunities for scammers. By providing direct access to local and federal law enforcement and prosecutors, the event offers invaluable expert advice on how these crimes are perpetrated and simple preventative measures. This proactive approach helps to mitigate financial losses for individuals and businesses, strengthens community resilience against fraud, and fosters a safer economic environment. The collaboration between local police, the FBI, and the District Attorney's Office underscores the severity of the issue and the coordinated effort to combat financial crime.
What's Next?
The Holiday Scam Protection Presentation is a one-time event designed to equip the community with immediate knowledge and tools. However, the information shared is intended for ongoing application, particularly as the holiday shopping season progresses. The Gresham Police Department and its partners will likely continue to monitor fraud trends and may offer similar educational programs in the future, or disseminate information through other channels. Businesses and individuals are encouraged to implement the protective measures discussed and remain vigilant against potential scams. Continued vigilance and reporting of suspicious activities will be key to the ongoing fight against financial crime in the community.
