The Singapore Maritime Foundation (SMF) recently organized the second edition of the SMF City Cycle event at PAssion Wave @ Marina Bay. The event, themed 'Bringing Maritime Singapore Together,' saw participation from 150 maritime stakeholders and MaritimeONE
scholars. The initiative aimed to promote industry cohesiveness and invest in future maritime talent. A total of 66 sponsors from the industry and unions contributed S$407,000, which will be used to fund MaritimeONE scholarships and bursaries. The event was flagged off by Mr. Murali Pillai, Senior Minister of State for Law and Transport, alongside SMF Chairman Mr. Hor Weng Yew. The 20-kilometer cycling route showcased Singapore's eastern coastline and anchorage, underscoring the country's status as a global maritime hub.
Why It's Important?
This fundraising effort is significant as it highlights the maritime industry's commitment to nurturing future talent. By pooling resources to create scholarships and bursaries, the industry is investing in its long-term sustainability and growth. The event also serves to strengthen community ties within the maritime sector, fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose. As Singapore continues to position itself as a leading maritime hub, initiatives like these are crucial in ensuring a steady pipeline of skilled professionals who can drive innovation and maintain the country's competitive edge in the global maritime industry.
