What's Happening?
Steph McGovern, a broadcaster and former engineer, has launched a scholarship at Teesside University to support women entering the engineering field. The Steph McGovern Women in Engineering Scholarship,
funded by Enginuity, aims to provide financial support and mentorship to first-year female engineering students. The initiative addresses the underrepresentation of women in engineering, where they make up only 16.9% of the workforce. The scholarship is part of a broader effort to encourage diversity in STEM fields and is supported by Teesside University and Enginuity.
Why It's Important?
This scholarship is a significant step towards increasing gender diversity in engineering, a field traditionally dominated by men. By providing financial support and mentorship, the scholarship aims to remove barriers that women face in pursuing engineering careers. This initiative not only benefits the recipients but also contributes to a more diverse and innovative engineering workforce. Encouraging more women to enter engineering can lead to a broader range of perspectives and solutions in the industry, ultimately driving progress and innovation.
