What's Happening?
The S.T.E.P. (Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Pathways) program, run by Access to Thrive, has celebrated the graduation of its first cohort of entrepreneurs with disabilities in El Centro. The program, which began with 25 students and graduated 26,
focuses on turning the adaptive skills of individuals with disabilities into entrepreneurial strengths. Participants received training in business planning, computer literacy, and emotional regulation, among other areas. The program aims to empower individuals with disabilities to start their own businesses, providing them with the tools and support needed to succeed.
Why It's Important?
The graduation of the first S.T.E.P. cohort marks a significant step in promoting entrepreneurship among individuals with disabilities. By equipping participants with the necessary skills and resources, the program not only enhances their economic independence but also challenges societal perceptions of disability. This initiative highlights the potential of individuals with disabilities to contribute to the economy as business owners, fostering inclusivity and diversity in the entrepreneurial landscape. It also underscores the importance of tailored support systems that address the unique challenges faced by this community.
