What's Happening?
The Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) has announced that the Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg will host one of the 16 neutral-site games in the 2025-26 PWHL Takeover Tour. This event will feature
a matchup between Montreal and Ottawa on March 22, 2026. The tour aims to bring top women’s hockey players to various cities across North America, allowing fans to experience the PWHL's regular season games in their local communities. The tour will visit 11 locations, including new cities like Calgary, Chicago, and Dallas, and will return to cities such as Denver and Detroit. The previous season's tour attracted over 123,000 fans, indicating a growing interest in women's hockey.
Why It's Important?
The PWHL Takeover Tour is significant as it promotes women's hockey and provides visibility for female athletes in a traditionally male-dominated sport. By hosting games in various cities, the tour helps to expand the league's fan base and encourages local communities to engage with women's sports. This initiative supports gender equality in sports and offers young women role models in professional hockey. The involvement of major partners like DoorDash further highlights the commercial potential and growing support for women's hockey.
What's Next?
Tickets for the Winnipeg game will go on presale for Winnipeg Jets and Manitoba Moose season seat members on November 13, 2025, with general sales starting on November 14, 2025. The PWHL will continue to promote the tour and engage with local communities to ensure successful events across all host cities. The league's expansion efforts may lead to increased sponsorship opportunities and further integration of women's hockey into mainstream sports culture.
