The non-profit Opportunity International has developed a generative AI chatbot to provide farming advice, supported by the Malawi government. This initiative aims to assist farmers like Alex Maere, who lost his farm to Cyclone Freddy, by suggesting alternative crops and farming techniques. The AI tool, named Ulangizi, operates via WhatsApp and offers advice in Chichewa and English, helping farmers improve productivity despite challenges such as language diversity and limited digital infrastructure.
