Michael Levin, a seasoned sailor from Tahoma, California, successfully rescued a jet skier stranded about three miles offshore of Lake Tahoe. On July 16, during a routine sailing trip, Levin overheard a Coast Guard emergency broadcast about a missing
jet skier near Obexer’s Marina. Despite challenging conditions with increasing winds and whitecaps, Levin decided to assist in the search. After approximately 20 minutes, he spotted the jet skier's hand and arm in the water. Utilizing his extensive experience in man overboard recovery, Levin maneuvered his 28-foot sailboat to the jet skier and threw a rope to bring him aboard. The jet skier, who had been in the water for about an hour and a half, was visibly shivering but otherwise unharmed. Levin then coordinated with the Coast Guard to ensure the jet skier was safely transported to shore.
