What's Happening?
In Pocatello, a group of approximately 20 volunteers will conduct a walk audit around Syringa Elementary School to assess the safety and accessibility of walking routes for students. This initiative, scheduled for Thursday, aims to document street conditions
and identify potential safety concerns for children and parents walking or biking to school. The findings will contribute to a School Travel Plans Report, which will be used by the city and community partners in grant applications. The project is a collaborative effort involving the Southeast Idaho Council of Governments (SICOG), the city of Pocatello, Pocatello/Chubbuck School District 25, and the engineering firm Kimley-Horn. The initiative is part of a broader effort to encourage walking to school, which has been shown to improve student focus and reduce transportation costs.
