What's Happening?
General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) has been awarded a contract by the U.S. Army to integrate a CMOSS-compliant Electronic Warfare (EW) capability onto the MQ-1C Gray Eagle Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS). This integration marks the third EW capability added to the CMOSS chassis, demonstrating the ease of incorporating new plug-and-play features into the Gray Eagle platform. The new capability aims to enhance deep sensing and increase the survivability and lethality of the Gray Eagle in the INDOPACOM Area of Responsibility.
Why It's Important?
The integration of CMOSS-compliant EW capabilities into the MQ-1C Gray Eagle represents a significant advancement in military technology, enhancing the UAS's ability to conduct electronic warfare operations. This development is crucial for maintaining strategic advantages in the Pacific region, where deep sensing and electronic warfare capabilities are essential for national security. The modular open systems architecture allows for rapid integration of new technologies, ensuring the Gray Eagle remains adaptable to evolving threats.
What's Next?
GA-ASI will collaborate with AeroVironment, Inc. to integrate the SharkCage Expeditionary C5ISR Chassis onto the Gray Eagle platform. This partnership aims to further enhance the UAS's capabilities and expand its operational scope. The successful integration of these technologies could lead to additional contracts and collaborations, positioning GA-ASI as a leader in advanced military systems.
