In July, the Texas Hill Country experienced another severe flood, testing the state's newly implemented warning systems. The flood, which brought up to 28 inches of rain to several counties, resulted in the destruction or damage of hundreds of buildings
but only three fatalities, a significant decrease from the previous year's 139 deaths. This improvement is attributed to earlier forecasts, new warning systems, and heightened public awareness following last year's disaster. The National Weather Service provided warnings four days in advance, compared to less than 24 hours the previous year. Despite these advancements, the flood exposed ongoing vulnerabilities in the state's flood-warning infrastructure, with many areas still lacking adequate sirens and gauges.
