What's Happening?
Nissan has introduced the sixth-generation Serena e-POWER in Malaysia, marking a significant shift from a mild hybrid setup to a full e-POWER system. Within the first month of its release, the vehicle has garnered over 1,300 bookings and approximately
250 deliveries, with April deliveries nearing 1,000 units. The e-POWER system, which drives the vehicle entirely with an electric motor while using a gasoline engine solely as a generator, offers smoother acceleration and reduced vibration. This model is positioned to continue the Serena's legacy as a top-selling MPV in Malaysia, with previous models selling thousands of units annually. The new Serena e-POWER is available in five variants, priced between RM154,800 and RM179,800, and includes advanced safety features and improved ride comfort.
Why It's Important?
The introduction of the Serena e-POWER in Malaysia is a strategic move by Nissan to strengthen its presence in the electrified vehicle market. The e-POWER system provides an EV-like driving experience without the need for charging infrastructure, which is still developing in Malaysia. This makes the Serena e-POWER an attractive option for family buyers who prioritize efficiency and convenience. The model's success could influence Nissan's regional strategy and encourage further adoption of electrified vehicles in markets with similar infrastructure challenges. Additionally, the Serena e-POWER's advanced features and competitive pricing may set a new standard in the MPV segment, potentially impacting competitors and driving innovation in vehicle electrification.
