What's Happening?
Aninver Development Partners, an international consultancy firm, has been awarded its first contract in the UK to develop a strategic plan aimed at enhancing the creative industries in Newcastle-under-Lyme.
The Borough Council of Newcastle-under-Lyme has commissioned Aninver to design and implement a Strategic Creative Industries and Action Plan Solution. This initiative is intended to unlock the borough's creative potential, drive innovation, and strengthen its cultural ecosystem. Aninver, headquartered in Spain, has a history of working on over 125 projects across 65 countries, and this new project marks a significant expansion into the UK market. The consultancy will collaborate with the Borough Council from September 2025 to February 2026, focusing on economic development, social impact, and cultural innovation.
Why It's Important?
The strategic plan developed by Aninver is crucial for Newcastle-under-Lyme as it seeks to balance affordable housing commitments with the growth of its cultural economy. The initiative aims to diversify the region's cultural offerings, foster innovation and entrepreneurship, and enhance community cohesion and well-being. By supporting the creative industries, the project is expected to create new business opportunities and strengthen the local economy. Additionally, the plan includes the creation of a 'gaming hub,' tapping into one of the UK's most dynamic creative sectors. This development is significant in the post-pandemic context, where cultural activities play a vital role in improving mental health and community cohesion.
What's Next?
Aninver will work closely with the Borough Council to implement the strategic plan, focusing on six central pillars: economic development, social impact, cultural innovation, cultural placemaking, health and well-being, and skill-building. The consultancy will identify priority sectors, partnerships, and investment opportunities to strengthen Newcastle-under-Lyme's creative economy. The project aims to leave a lasting legacy of social mobility by creating pathways for young people and underserved groups to access careers in creative sectors. The collaboration is expected to position Newcastle-under-Lyme as a forward-thinking, creative, and inclusive borough.
Beyond the Headlines
The project highlights the broader implications of cultural development strategies in local economies. By integrating cultural elements into economic planning, Newcastle-under-Lyme aims to enhance its attractiveness as a place to live, work, and invest. The initiative underscores the importance of cultural activities in fostering community cohesion and improving mental health, particularly in the aftermath of the pandemic. The focus on skill-building and employment opportunities through cultural events and festivals is expected to promote social mobility and inclusivity, providing underserved groups with access to creative careers.
