Herzberg argues that Miami Lakes, being a compact and primarily residential community with limited commercial and industrial land, is not an appropriate location for such facilities. The proposed measure would also update the town's Land Development Code to include a specific definition for data centers, as the current code only references 'data processing' within office buildings. This proactive approach follows a new state law signed by Governor Ron DeSantis in May, which codifies local governments' authority to regulate data center developments through their comprehensive plans.
