What's Happening?
The U.S.-India NISAR satellite has commenced the public release of its data, starting with a striking radar image resembling a hummingbird over Antarctica. This image is part of the satellite's mission to provide detailed radar imagery of Earth's surface,
which optical satellites cannot capture. The NISAR satellite, a collaboration between NASA and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), uses L-band and S-band radar systems to scan nearly all of Earth's land and ice surfaces every 12 days. The data release follows months of calibration since the satellite's launch in July 2025.
