The U.S. Air Force has brought a retired Rockwell B-1B Lancer back into service, reversing its previous plan to retire the bomber fleet. The B-1B, retired in 2021 and stored at Davis-Monthan AFB, Arizona, has been restored to flight status after extensive
regeneration at Tinker AFB, Oklahoma. This process involved replacing over 500 components and conducting system overhauls and structural repairs. The bomber, initially flown in a bare-metal configuration for check flights, has been painted and sent to its operational base at Dyess AFB, Texas. The Air Force's fiscal 2027 budget request includes $146.9 million for modifications to the Lancer fleet, ensuring its operational capability until 2037.
