Researchers from ESET have uncovered two Android spyware families, ProSpy and ToSpy, which are disguised as legitimate messaging apps Signal and ToTok. These spyware campaigns are believed to target residents of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The spyware, discovered in June, dates back to the previous year and requires manual installation from third-party websites, as they are not available in official app stores. Once installed, the spyware can access and exfiltrate data such as contacts, text messages, and stored files. The campaigns are regionally focused, with confirmed detections in the UAE.
