What's Happening?
Governor Greg Abbott has directed the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) and the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) to conduct a comprehensive audit of all data centers seeking to connect to the Texas grid. This audit must be completed
before any data center project can proceed. The directive aims to ensure that data centers comply with state requirements and do not jeopardize the reliability of the Texas electric grid. Currently, ERCOT is considering over 474 gigawatts of requests, primarily from data centers, which could strain the grid's capacity.
