What's Happening?
The County of Maui Department of Agriculture is organizing workshops to assist nonprofits and for-profit businesses in preparing for the Fiscal Year 2027 grant application period. The applications will
be accepted from June 22 to July 22, 2026. The department's priority funding areas include agricultural infrastructure, operations, education, recovery, livestock, non-food agriculture, and feral animal control, with a focus on supporting operations on Moloka‘i and Lāna‘i. Four workshops will be held across Maui County, including in-person sessions in Maui, Lāna‘i, and Moloka‘i, as well as an online session. These workshops aim to cover eligibility, grant requirements, and the application process, providing valuable guidance to potential applicants.
Why It's Important?
These workshops are crucial for local agricultural entities as they provide the necessary tools and information to successfully apply for grants that can significantly impact their operations. By focusing on key areas such as infrastructure and recovery, the grants can help enhance agricultural productivity and sustainability in Maui County. The emphasis on Moloka‘i and Lāna‘i highlights the department's commitment to supporting diverse agricultural operations across the islands. This initiative not only aids in the economic development of the region but also supports the broader goal of strengthening local food systems and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
What's Next?
Following the workshops, interested parties will have the opportunity to submit their grant applications starting June 22. The County Department of Agriculture will likely continue to provide support and resources throughout the application period to ensure a wide range of applicants can benefit from the available funding. Successful grant recipients will be able to implement projects that align with the department's priority areas, potentially leading to long-term improvements in the county's agricultural sector.
