Airbus Helicopters is set to introduce an uncrewed version of its H145 helicopter, named the U145, at the ILA Berlin Airshow. This new variant is designed for logistics, firefighting, and aerial scouting missions, and can also serve as a mothership for air-launched
effects. The U145, which lacks a physical cockpit, is a separate development from the MQ-72C Lakota Connector platform being developed for the U.S. Marine Corps. Airbus is leveraging its experience with the VSR700 naval rotary-wing uncrewed aircraft system to create this autonomous version. The U145 is expected to appeal to European countries, aligning with Europe's push for sovereign capabilities. Airbus plans to conduct a first flight with a safety pilot by the end of 2026, with service entry anticipated in the early 2030s.
