Astronomers have observed the final moments of a massive star's life, capturing a rare 'shock breakout' from a supernova in a galaxy 500 million light-years away. The event, designated SN 2026gzf, was first detected by China's Einstein Probe spacecraft.
Unlike typical supernovas that produce gamma-ray bursts, this explosion did not, offering new insights into the diversity of stellar deaths.
