What's Happening?
Forum Energy Technologies (FET) has secured a contract to deliver two new generation work class remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), the XLX EVO III, to Nigerian oil and gas firm Marine Platforms. These
ROVs are designed for a wide range of underwater tasks and feature larger thrusters for improved performance, an enhanced buoyancy package, and a new bolted frame for better maintenance access. The XLX EVO III also includes updated pilot chairs and console, along with FET's next-gen control software, ICE Unity, enabling remote operations and 24-hour support. The ROVs will be manufactured at FET's UK facility and are scheduled for delivery in May 2026.
Why It's Important?
The delivery of FET's advanced ROVs to Marine Platforms signifies a strengthening of technological capabilities in the subsea industry, particularly in challenging regions like West Africa. This development could enhance operational efficiency and safety in underwater oil and gas exploration, potentially leading to increased production and economic benefits for Nigeria. The contract also highlights FET's growth in the subsea sector, reflecting broader trends in the adoption of advanced technologies for energy exploration and extraction.
What's Next?
As FET continues to expand its presence in the subsea industry, the successful deployment of the XLX EVO III ROVs could lead to further contracts and collaborations with other oil and gas firms. The technology's performance in real-world conditions will be closely watched, potentially influencing future investments in subsea exploration technologies.
