have caused Nebraska’s largest reservoir to drop below 23% capacity. This low water level has rendered local boat ramps unusable but has created a rare opportunity for historians and residents to explore the remnants of the former town. Local historian Calvin Berry, whose family has roots in the region dating back to 1907, has identified structures such as the old Lemoyne State Bank, including its vault, concrete columns of a filling station, and the foundations of Gus Samuelson’s general store and neighboring homes. Old Lemoyne was once a bustling rail shipping town, primarily used for transporting cattle to Omaha markets. Before its submersion, residents relocated many buildings to higher ground or nearby communities like Brule and Ogallala.
