The company has been conducting 5G trials since 2018, alongside its competitor SLT-Mobitel, as they await the allocation of 5G spectrum by the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL). The spectrum auction process began on October 3, with the auction scheduled to conclude by December 15, 2025.
Why It's Important?
The expansion of Dialog Axiata's 5G trial network is a significant step towards the commercialization of 5G services in Sri Lanka. The successful deployment of 5G could lead to improved internet speeds and support for advanced technologies such as IoT and smart city applications. For Dialog Axiata, securing a substantial portion of the 5G spectrum could strengthen its market position and drive future growth. The auction's outcome will also impact other telecom operators and the broader telecommunications landscape in Sri Lanka.
