What's Happening?
The German Bundeswehr is currently evaluating 30 artificial intelligence tools to enhance battlefield decision-making by processing data from drones and satellites. Vice Admiral Thomas Daum, head of the military’s cyber command, announced that a prototype
is expected by the second quarter of 2027, with full deployment anticipated in 2028. Most of the companies involved in this evaluation are German, though French firm ChapsVision is also a candidate. This initiative follows Germany's decision in April to reject Palantir's Maven Smart System, which is already utilized by the Pentagon and several NATO members. Germany's move signifies a strategic shift towards developing sovereign military software to reduce dependence on foreign suppliers, despite the fact that the Maven system is already operational.
