What's Happening?
New York City officials have announced a plan to utilize excess heat from subway platforms to warm nearby city buildings. The project, led by Mayor Zohran Mamdani and the MTA, involves a thermal energy network at the Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall and Chambers
Street stations. This network will capture and redirect heat to government buildings during winter. The initiative aims to address the sweltering conditions of subway platforms in summer while providing sustainable heating solutions. A feasibility study is set to begin, with design work expected in early 2027.
