What's Happening?
Jennifer Findley has been appointed as the first Director of Arts & Culture at Oram Hotels, a San Diego-based hospitality group known for its historic properties, Granger Hotel and The Guild. Findley,
an internationally recognized art advisor and founder of JFiN Collective, will work with Oram Hotels co-founder Kevin Mansour to develop a cross-border arts initiative. This initiative aims to integrate hospitality with culture by spotlighting regional and international talent through artist residencies, community programs, and partnerships. The initiative will also include collaborations with institutions like UC San Diego's Stuart Collection.
Why It's Important?
Findley's appointment and the subsequent arts initiative represent a significant step in merging the hospitality and cultural sectors. By transforming hotels into cultural hubs, Oram Hotels is setting a precedent for how hospitality businesses can contribute to the arts and engage with local communities. This approach not only enhances the cultural landscape of San Diego but also attracts visitors interested in cultural tourism. The initiative could serve as a model for other hospitality groups looking to integrate cultural experiences into their offerings, potentially boosting local economies and supporting artists.
What's Next?
Under Findley's leadership, Oram Hotels will begin hosting artist residencies and cultural events, starting with a partnership with UC San Diego's Stuart Collection. This collaboration will kick off with a project by Los Angeles-based sculptor Max Hooper Schneider. As the initiative develops, it is expected to draw attention from both local and international artists and visitors, further establishing San Diego as a cultural destination. The success of this initiative could inspire similar projects in other cities, promoting a broader integration of arts and hospitality.
