What's Happening?
Sefine Shipyard's Strategic and Unmanned Systems Research Center (SİSAM) in Türkiye has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Canada's Kraken Robotics. The agreement, announced during the Saha Expo in Istanbul, focuses on integrating Kraken's
Katfish synthetic aperture sonar into SİSAM's mission planning software. This collaboration aims to develop automatic target recognition capabilities using high-resolution sonar data processed in near real-time. The integration will involve creating an AI-supported data library for sonar-based target detection and identification. A demonstration of Kraken's Katfish and the launch of Sefine's SİS vessel was conducted off the coast of Istanbul.
Why It's Important?
This partnership between Sefine and Kraken Robotics represents a significant advancement in maritime technology, particularly in sonar-based target recognition. The integration of advanced sonar systems with AI capabilities can enhance maritime security and operational efficiency. This collaboration could lead to improved detection and identification of underwater threats, benefiting military and commercial maritime operations. The development of such technologies is crucial for countries looking to bolster their defense capabilities and maintain maritime security in increasingly contested waters.
