Melissa Martinez has been promoted to the role of Press Secretary for Representative Melanie A. Stansbury, who serves New Mexico's 1st congressional district. Martinez, who previously worked as a Communications Assistant in Stansbury's office, began her
new role on July 1. She holds a degree in political science and government from California State University, Northridge, and has been part of Stansbury's team since early 2026. Before joining Stansbury's staff, Martinez interned with the House Democratic Caucus and worked as a District Intern for Rep. Brad Sherman. Stansbury, a Democratic representative, is also the Ranking Member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee's Delivering on Government Efficiency Subcommittee. She has been active in securing federal funding for educational initiatives in her district, including a new community school and STEM programs.
