The U.S. Army has awarded Northrop Grumman a new nine-year, firm-fixed-price, indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (ID/IQ) contract valued at $4.8 billion for its Common Infrared Countermeasures (CIRCM) system. This contract significantly expands an existing
program aimed at protecting Army helicopters from missile threats. The CIRCM system is designed to counter shoulder-fired and vehicle-launched anti-aircraft missiles that target aircraft heat signatures. This new contract extends full-rate production into 2035. The program initially began in April 2021 with a five-year ID/IQ contract worth $959.1 million. The Army's FY27 defense budget had already allocated $1.6 billion over five years for CIRCM procurement, with plans to produce 962 units by the start of the next decade and a total procurement of nearly 2,000 systems for AH-64 Apache, CH-47 Chinook, and UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters.
