Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) is facing challenges in fully utilizing its agricultural potential, according to experts at the International Expert Scientific Conference on the Green Agenda of the European Union and the Sustainable Development of Organic
Agriculture. The conference, organized by FINRA University, highlighted issues such as insufficient motivation among young people to engage in agriculture, inadequate incentives, and the need for new technologies and methods to boost development. Midhat Glavić, Director of the Federal Institute of Agriculture, noted significant food deficits, emphasizing the need for a focus on education and science to drive agricultural sustainability. The conference also showcased the support for ecological agriculture and agribusiness programs at FINRA University, aiming to enhance professional competence in the field.
Why It's Important?
The underutilization of agricultural potential in Bosnia and Herzegovina has significant implications for the country's economy and food security. With a growing food deficit, the need for sustainable agricultural practices and technological advancements is critical. The focus on education and scientific research could lead to improved agricultural productivity and economic growth. This situation also highlights the importance of engaging young people in agriculture to ensure the sector's future viability. The conference's emphasis on ecological agriculture aligns with global trends towards sustainable development, which could position BiH as a leader in organic agriculture in the region.
